Friday, September 9, 2011 at 8:14PM Farrelly Brothers' 'The Three Stooges' Coming Next Spring

Moviegoers can look forward to "getting stooged" next spring, whatever the hell that means. The Farrelly brothers' take on The Three Stooges will trip and stumble into theaters on April 4, 2012. And thanks to THR, we know the adventure that lays ahead for Larry (Sean Hayes), Moe (Chris Diamantopoulos) and Curly (Will Sasso).
The numbskull brothers will try to save their childhood home, but instead get wrapped up in a murder mystery, before they somehow land their own reality TV show. Now that's a busy premise. The script was written by the Farellys and friend Mike Cerrone, which is the only reason I have shred of optimism going into this comedy.
Well that, and one of my all time favorite comedians, Curb Your Enthusiasm star and Seinfeld co-creator Larry David will be appearing in the film. David won't be the only big name to show up, as Jane Lynch, Jennifer Hudson and Sofia Vergara will play the other nuns tormented by the Stooges. Also, the real life Stooges from MTV's Jersey Shore are included in the cast, probably to mock reality TV and themselves.
The fact that the Farrellys are the kings of low brow comedy, only fuels my desire to see the film. Plus, it's The Three Stooges! It'd be impossible to ruin their brand of slapstick comedy, right?

The basis of three stooges comedy is schtick. This comedic trait is thought to be centuries old. With three goyim actors in the roles, I question if the true essence of the stooges can be brought to its true fruition.
Secondly, the original trio surrounded themselves with eclectic actors. Emil Sitka, Vernon Dent, Bud Jamison, Christine McIntyre, Symona Boniface, and Kenneth Macdonald were the supporting cast greasing the cogs of this comedy machine.
finally, who knew the product better than the original actors themselves. moe and director del lord could write a routine in a single afternoon. How does one emulate this process? Not very easily...
