Earlier this week we learned that AMC, was developing a series based on Scorsese’s mob drama Goodfellas. This week comes word that A&E has also decided to grab a piece of the big-to-little screen fanfare by ordering Hitchcock’s classic thriller Psycho to series. The series will be written as a prequel to the events surrounding the original film and delve into the deconstruction of Norman’s mind. No cast has been announced, but through THR we learned that Anthony Cipriano (Twelve and Holding) penned the pilot script.
Network television honchos have always operated under the formula of “coveting they neighbor’s” success. When one network jumps up and gets noticed the rest run to the mirror to see what they need to change about themselves. Once upon a time AMC was regarded as the network of old movie reruns before deciding to branch out and join the scripted series game, now they’re home to Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead and the best show of television: Mad Men.
So it’s no wonder that a few years ago A&E began to re-shape their image from only green-lighting creepy reality shows like Hoarders to serious scripted fare. Bates Motel will join a lineup that already features Breakout Kings, and The Glades.
Hopefully, the bigwigs at A&E will spare no expense and make sure they pay proper homage to one of the all-time greats. Screw it up and they just might get a visit while showering.

I think the best show on TV is Breaking Bad.
