Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 6:34PM Box-Office Weekend Results: 'Contraband' Wins Weekend

It isn't news that Mark Wahlberg can bring in an audience so it comes to no suprise that Contraband won this weekends box-office. It managed to rake in an okay $24 million, a full $10 million less than my actual prediction. The question still stands, can Contraband still hold its own when Underworld 4 is released? Only time will tell.

Beauty and the Beast 3D landed in at number two. Disney has learned something with the re-release of The Lion King last year - releasing a classic in a new format to a whole new generation will prove profitable. Beast made $18.4 million, $6 million less than the prediction I made on Friday. I personally want to know if the beauty of Beauty and the Beast still holds up well in todays day and age; I will let you guys know later in the comments section when I get back from the theater tonight. It's not weird if a group of twenty-something guys go to see Beauty and the Beast, is it?
In a suprising turn of events, depending on the person you are, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol snuck in to take third place. The hype for the film is moderately high ever since it was released in mid-December. I actually went to go see this film three times in one week. M:I 4 earned $11.5 million.
Joyful Noise and Sherlock Holmes 2 placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Joyful Noise made a sad $11.3 million on its debut and Sherlock Holmes made $8.4 million. The Devil Inside, probably due to fan criticism, dropped by 76% percent from last week placing sixth.
