Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 10:10PM Fox After The 'Chronicle' Director for 'Fantastic Four' Reboot?

Apparently, two Fantastic Four movies weren't good enough even with a bad ass character like Silver Surfer in the sequel, as a planned reboot has been in the cards for a while. Don't get me wrong, the movies were considered blockbusters and made bank, but both were universally ripped on by critics and fans alike.
Not only does Fox have its sights set on another feature film go-around with these four fantastic Marvel favorites, but they've possibly pinpointed their next director as well. Variety reports the studio could soon tab Josh Trank, director/co-writer of the upcoming found-footage teens with super powers drama Chronicle (due out February 3, 2012).
I've included the trailer for Chronicle just so you can see why Fox is so hot for Trank to potentially direct. The only hang up is they're reportedly waiting to see how the movie is received before entering into negotiations with him regarding Fantastic Four.
I'm fired up to see Chronicle, it looks quite interesting. On the other hand, I have little desire to pay for more Fantastic Four dreck, though reboots have traditionally been marked improvements over their predecessors. X-Men: First Class and Batman Begins come to mind when I think of recent examples, and it's yet to be determined whether The Amazing Spider-Man will be better than Sam Raimi's versions.
So are we excited for more Fantastic Four? Keep in mind hottie Jessica Alba probably won't be back, and I'd be shocked to see Chris Evans return as The Human Torch.
Check out the Chronicle trailer and let us know what you think.

Let's wait til we see "Chronicle". Got to admit, the trailer looks like a good mash-up of superhero and "found footage" movies. We'll need to see if it's a "found footage"/superhero movie or a superhero/"found footage" movie to really determine if he can do a full-on 80 million plus superhero movie. The studios are looking too, you can bet. The first Fantastic Four movie is STILL to me the rare example of a movie that actually gets worse on each repeat viewing whereas I really liked the second one as they got the whole "origin" thing out of the way so it was free to carry on the outrageous Marvel Comics brand of superheroics. I have to admit though, I still think of "The Incredibles" as being the best movie about four fantastic superheroes, so ideally any reboot needs to really look at what they did there.
