Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 2:10PM New Photos Reveal “Space Jockeys” in 'Prometheus'

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that reporting every little bit of new info on a highly anticipated film seems to be pandering to its fans, but we the fans love it. And so, we’re being privy to a new photo that reveals a lot more about those “Space Jockey Suits”. The photo also features Noomi Rapace looking towards something that’s off camera, wearing a different suit with an intricate design and tight form in Ridley Scott's Prometheus.
Writer Damon Lindelof spoke with the Los Angeles Times briefly about the film:
"The movie is definitely epic in its scope. One of the filmmakers that we ended up talking about to a fair degree of redundancy was David Lean, who directed Lawrence of Arabia. We wanted to make the movie feel big by having the characters be small in big spaces. That connected to the larger themes we were talking about — that we’re all just these little gnats crawling around on our little planet."
What’s behind actress Noomi Rapace is interestingly “space jockeys” suits that director Ridley Scott talks about in an interview with Filmophilia. Here’s a quick excerpt:
"Therefore, who is that, inside that [Space Jockey] suit? That wasn’t a skeleton, that was a suit. And if you open up the suit, what do you get inside it? And why were they going, where were they going?"
Scott also briefly discusses the possibility of seeing the xenomorph in Prometheus:
"No. Absolutely not… They squeezed it dry. He (the xenomorph) did very well. (He laughs) He survived, he's now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!"
"Yeah, so there you have that… I was always amazed that, I mean, I've only done two science-fictions [Alien and Blade Runner], but I was always amazed that no one asked who the hell the Space Jockey was. He wasn't even called the Space Jockey. During the film they started to call it the Space Jockey. I don't know who started that one off. I always thought it was amazing that no one ever asked who he was, and why was he there? What was all that about? I sat thinking about this for a while and thought, well, there's a story! And the other four [films] missed it! So, here it is.”
And finally, Scott further describes Prometheus’ link to the original Alien:
“I mean, you could actually say, and there's a quote I did, a pretty good quote: By the end of the third act you start to realize there's a DNA of the very first Alien, but none of the subsequent Aliens. To tell you what that is is a pity, and I'm not going to tell you, because it's actually pretty good, pretty organic to the process and to the original. But we go back, we don't go forward.”
