Two of the standouts from a pair of my favorite movies to come out in 2011, Horrible Bosses and Bridesmaids are combining their talents for a new comedy from Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, King of Kong). Jason Bateman and the increasingly sought after actress Melissa McCarthy will team up for Identity Theft, according to Deadline. Apparently, the role opposite of Bateman, the victim of identity theft was originally written for a man, but Bateman saw Bridesmaids and insisted the part go to McCarthy.
Identity Theft will reportedly curb Gordon's planned Horrible Bosses sequel in the mean time, which is kind of a shame. Of course, the combination of Bateman's dry, straight faced style of humor will be an entertaning contrast to McCarthy's over the top persona and this comedy could more than make up for the absence of an HB sequel. I suspect Identity Theft will contain a ton of laughs and maybe possess the same universal appeal Bridesmaids had by bringing these two funny people together.
Landing a comedian as talented and in such high demand as McCarthy currently is could prove to be a major coup for this project. Bateman's no slouch either. He can easily be the funniest man on the movie screen without doing much in process. Can you tell I'm excited about this movie?
No word on when production will start for this potential piece of comedic gold, but rest assured GTBP will keep you up to speed on further Identity Theft developments as they occur.
