Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 6:20PM Spanish 'Lorax' Poster Fails to Impress

A couple of months ago, the trailer for the most recent adaptation of a Dr. Seuss book, The Lorax, was released. To put it bluntly, it looks absolutely amazing. With bright eye-popping visuals, wonderful voice work from Danny Devito, and a quirky sense of humor, it seems poised to be a great animated feature that captures the spirit and style of the book. It's one of the few movies that I can't wait to be able to see in 3D. But, you wouldn't know any of that from the new Spanish poster that's popped up online via Internet Movie Poster Awards.

How exactly does one look at all of the lush colors and brightness that we got in the trailers and come up with something this generic? If it weren't for the Lorax image pasted at the side of the title, we'd have no reason to even make the connection. It looks like something that Dreamworks animation would pump out in the mid 2000s.
This isn't enough to kill my enthusiasm for the film, of course, but it does make me hope that the marketing gets better when it picks up stateside. With Dr. Seuss adaptations, we've seen the good (Horton Hears A Who), the bad (The Grinch), and the ugly (the demonspawn that was The Cat in the Hat). Here's hoping that this will be in the first category. I'll leave you with the amazing trailer:
