We reported back last October that Ben Affleck was hired to tackle the big screen adaptation of Stepehen King's epic novel The Stand. Affleck will begin production on this famous story of good vs evil at the end of the world after he wraps up his current directorial effort Argo. The Stand is now much closer with news that Warner Bros. has hired David Kajganich (The Invasion) to write the script, according to Vulture.
Kajganich has written two previous film scripts, The Invasion and Blood Creek (2009) so his body of work is fairly limited heading into this ambitious project. Apparently, the studio is very on him since he recently wrote a draft of another Stephen King favorite It that they were blown away by. I'm very intrigued to see that King adaptation as well as The Stand, so this Kajganich fella must be one heck of a writer.
Both films are being produced by Roy Lee and Doug Davison, so the writer being connected to the pair of projects make sense.
Meanwhile, Affleck the director has proven himself with solid efforts making The Town and Gone Baby Gone, but I'll be curious to see if that talent translates well with The Stand. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Here's the synopsis from IMDB: After the world is devastated by a man-made plague, a battle of literally Biblical proportions ensues between the survivors.
What do you think, can Affleck handle The Stand?
