Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 7:20PM Edgar Wright & Simon Pegg Prepare for ‘The World’s End’?

On the same day that The Academy Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 84th Academy Awards, three simple words may have caused just as much online buzz. When Edgar Wright sent the below twit-pic into the crazy viral dimension of the internet, it activated nerd-alarms all over the world.
Why? Because The World’s End is the long rumored third installment in The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy and will of course star Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg first collaborated on the television show Spaced, before jumping onto the big screen with moderate success. Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz were solid films, but neither achieved huge box office numbers. Wright and Pegg, who co-wrote those films, had joked about someday completing their ‘blood and ice cream’ trilogy. (Possibly because blood and Cornetto ice cream appeared in the first two films.)
While the first two were released three years apart, it has been four years since Fuzz was released and the culprit was that usual suspect know as fame. Wright invested much of that time delivering Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. While Frost and Pegg seem to be semi-connected at the hip while appearing in the films Paul and The Adventures of Tintin (voice role), it was Pegg getting cast in the Star Trek re-boot (besides killing it in Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol) that makes him more well-known with movie audiences.
As long as Wright and Pegg stay true to the purpose and inspiration of those first two segments then we should get quite the sequel.
