There are plenty of Liam Neeson fans out there, and they're excited to see his upcoming survival thriller The Grey. But, another movie this year that many fans were hoping Liam Neeson would play an action-heavy part in is The Dark Knight Rises, reprising his Batman Begins villain, Ra's Al Ghul. Sure, it may have seemed like he died at the end of Begins, but fans of the comic books know that death has never kept the mastermind down for long. In a recent interview, however, Neeson spread some light on just how likely such a return is.
In an interview with ShowbizSpy he said, "I can tell you nothing about 'Dark Knight Rises,' seriously..I was on set for maybe an hour-and-a-half and the director didn't tell me anything of what it's about. So, I'm being very honest when I say I have no idea what's going to happen."
That certainly means he won't be playing a prominent role, if he's even in it at all. He could have meant that he was just visiting, and an hour and a half is a short filming time even for a brief flashback sequence. Either way, he certainly isn't going to be playing a big part.
While I was curious to see just how Nolan would have implemented a Lazarus Pit (wiki it) into his more realistic Batman universe, this is good news overall. Bringing Ra's back would up the villain count to four, and we've seen before that having too many villains in a superhero movie can cause some real problems. Remember Spider-Man 3? Overall, I trust Christopher Nolan to incorporate the characters he's chosen into an effective, cohesive narrative.
