So begins the next round of publicity for David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The highly anticipated film based on the Stieg Larsson Millenium trilogy, starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, won’t be premiering in India because the director, Fincher, has refused to cut some scenes that don’t appease India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The particular scenes involved seeing “the film's principal female lead Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) and Mikael Blomkvist (Craig) ; a lesbian scene featuring Lisbeth and a woman she meets at a bar; a scene where Lisbeth is raped and tortured. In a follow-up scene, she tortures her tormentor as a video of her being assaulted plays in the background.”
The latter being a very hard scene to watch, because it is in fact vicious and cathartic for Lisbeth. Sony Pictures also released a statement:
“Sony Pictures will not be releasing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in India. The Censor Board has adjudged the film unsuitable for public viewing in its unaltered form and, while we are committed to maintaining and protecting the vision of the director, we will, as always, respect the guidelines set by the Board.”
The CBFC official statement had been quoted as saying that “the protocol usually is to blur out the scenes that have frontal nudity.” Oddly enough, another spokesman from Sony Pictures said that the scenes were “specifically asked to be cut and not blurred.”

....yeah, we have real morons over here when it comes to such things. They choose really odd times to become active. Other films with nudity and rape/torture, and homosexuality have been released without being censored. Eastern Promises and Boys Don't Cry, for example. Dunno what's gotten them itchy about this film. Idiots.
