Disneyland has always led inspiration to films in one way or another. The best example, the Pirates of the Caribbean ride led to a highly successful movie franchise, and now another equally classic, popular ride is headed to the big screen. The Matterhorn (pictured above) is no longer just a ridiculous mock film project from HBO's hit series Entourage, but a real movie concept that has just received the green light from Disney, Deadline reported earlier today.
Apparently, the Matterhorn, a ride that I once saw the late Walter Cronkite (yes I'm old) waiting in the same line for will serve as the setting for an extreme sports feature from famed commercial/music video director Brian Beletic. The script by Jason Dean Hall, currently going by Untitled Explorers Project brings a group of young "super adventure/explorers", who fly out to the Pennine Alps together to engage in extreme sports. Skiing? Snow boarding? That's all I can think of.
Disney has also brought production company Brain Farm Cinema into the mix. They were behind the snowboard film The Art of Flight, so that may appeal to some thrill seekers out there and clearly Disney wants this movie to be as close to the real thing as possible.
Sounds like kind of a cool project, minus the Matterhorn involvement. I'm just hoping the scenes shot in or around the famous amusement ride look good.
