‘Oblivion’ Trailer Featuring Tom Cruise & Morgan Freeman

Universal has just released the trailer for the hotly anticipated Sci-Fi action thriller, Oblivion.  Oblivion was written and directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) and stars Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo (The Fighter), Olga Kurylenko (Seven Psychopaths), Zoe Bell (The Baytown Outlaws), and Andrea Riseborough (Never Let Me Go).  With a budget of $130 million, Oblivion was based on a Radical Publishing graphic novel by the same name and has an April 19th release date.

“…Cruise plays Jack Harper, one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth.  Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the 'Scavs', Jack’s mission is nearly complete.  Living in and patrolling the skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues an attractive female stranger from a downed spacecraft.  Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands..."

Oblivion is one of those films that you don’t hear too much of until they get into post-production and the studios PR department starts to ramp up the campaign.  The trailer doesn’t blow you away with action and thrills, but it does offer some interesting visuals and the promise of a deeper story on a possible future where mankind turns upon itself.

Of particular note in regards to the writing credits, is the addition of Michael Arndt.  We just learned recently how he was selected to write the next Star Wars movie and perhaps it was due to what he added to this movie script.  Fanboys will be watching very closely.
