Monday, December 3, 2012 at 4:15AM 'A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III': Awful Title, Even Worse Trailer

What do you see when you get A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III? Well you see something that looks like a movie that would come from the mind of say Charlie Kaufman or Spike Jonze, or even Wes Anderson. But it didn’t come from them, it came from Roman Coppola. Who you may ask? Well Coppola is no stranger to quirk as he helped write Moonrise Kingdom and The Darjeerling Limited. But I’ll let you watch the just released trailer first before I move forward. Oh, and Charlie Sheen is the star…yeah…
Well this movie would be one thing if Charlie Kaufman wrote it. If Spike Jonze was involved this movie might be something. And let’s not forget Michel Gondry because if he was involved it might be something. But we have none of those guys; we have Roman Coppola…and Charlie Sheen. Now it’s hard to say how much influence Roman may have had when helping write Moonrise Kingsdom or Darjeerling Limited, but this trailer does nothing to make me think Wes Anderson was only doing the guy a favor by having him sit in on the writing sessions. Is it just me or does Charles Swann have the stink of desperation at trying to be a really quirky movie?
And it also won’t help that you have as your star one very marginally talented Charlie Sheen. Whatever Roman had in mind for this movie, Mr. Sheen is the wrong guy to try and pull it off. I’m sorry, but the guy can’t do comedy. His two co-stars, Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman have that ability…it’s too bad one of them wasn’t the lead actor. Oh well, what are you going to do?
Charles Swann lets us inside his mind on Feb. 8th. Though I doubt this movie will get much of a release outside of major markets (read NY and LA).

This looks like a bad parody of a Wes Anderson movie. The actors must have owed Roman Coppola a favor or something.
Right? When I first heard about this movie I was kinda optimistic..not anymore. It also helps when your dad is Francis Ford Coppola.
