Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 2:13PM Frank Grillo Gets Bronson Role in 'Death Wish' Remake?
James Badge Dale, Frank Grillo
You may have recently seen Frank Grillo as the asshole plane crash survivor opposite of Liam Neeson and others in The Grey. He could also be spotted as Joel Edgerton's MMA trainer in Warrior. Grillo must've made a lasting impression on Grey director Joe Carnahan, as the latter views him as the ideal candidate for his Death Wish remake. Carnahan sent out a recent tweet to that effect, while also including his personal take on the script he'll be writing for his version of the late Charles Bronson action vehicle.
Carnahan tweeted the following,
I'm doing 'Death Wish.' But this version is a re-imagining of the book and set in present day Los Angeles," he wrote on Twitter.
"The only role I'm writing in 'Death Wish,' which will mark the ONE time I've ever written exclusively for an actor, will be for Frank Grillo."
That doesn't necessarily mean Grillo will be the main man in this one, and it certainly doesn't put to bed my theory about Neeson being a possible fit for the lead. Clearly, Carnahan likes his work enough to write him into the new script. That being said, if Grillo is the headlining actor it will be a game changer for his career.
I don't see them going that route, but stranger things have happened. Plus, the studio has put a lot of faith into Carnahan as the writer and director of Death Wish.
Do you like Frank Grillo for this role in an updated Death Wish or would you have someone else in mind?
