"BeetleJuice, BeetleJuice, BeetleJuice." Ok, I said his name three times...where is he? If you loved Tim Burton's original BeetleJuice creation and Michael Keaton during the 80s as much as I did than you're probably excited for the possibility of a sequel too. Unfortunately, we may find ourselves waiting longer than expected. STYD spoke with sequel writer Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) who discussed how close to a reality BeetleJuice 2 truly is or isn't.
"It's a reality in the sense that I met with Michael Keaton last week," he said. "We talked for a couple of hours and talked about big picture stuff."
Well, that's a good start. He further explained why there's a hold up, and it's on his end.
"It's a priority for Warner Bros. It's a priority for Tim [Burton]. Right now, I am writing an animated movie for Tim based on an idea of mine. Then I adapt 'Unholy Night' [based on the upcoming book]. The third I am hoping is 'Beetlejuice' in terms of writing schedule."
Smith-Grahame also elaborated more on his productive conversation with Keaton who is clearly into a long rumored sequel. Dude probably also wants to be a movie star again too.
"He's been wanting to do it for 20 years. I told him [that] I have a huge reverence for Tim and a huge reverence for that film in general. So, right now, it remains to be seen, I have a couple of story ideas, but we're very early out."
So the writer is not ready to write is the reason we have no headway on a script? WTF?! Warner Bros., Keaton and Burton want to do it, and I want to see it. Why can't that be enough? We'll let you know if the status of BeetleJuice 2.0 Bigger, Longer and Uncut changes for the better and they finally establish some movement with it.
