Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 9:31AM Jennifer Aniston Eyes 'Jackie Brown' Prequel 'Switch'

If Vince Vaughn can move on from awful rom coms to action movies, then the still lovely Jennifer Aniston can try "switch" gears as well. The former Friends star is doing just that at the moment, as she's reportedly in negotiations to sign on for the prequel to Jackie Brown, another Elmore Leonard novel turned major motion picture entitled Switch. If and when Aniston and possibly Dennis Quaid officially agree to terms, they'll join Ty Burrell (Modern Family), Yaslin Bey a.k.a Mos Def and the great John Hawkes who've previously been cast.
While the new film isn't precisely a prequel, it does feature the same characters from other novels in different adventures. Unknown director Dan Schechter will helm this story of two ex-cons (Bey, Hawkes), who nab a crooked real estate developer's wife (Aniston), though he in turn sees it as an opportunity to ditch his wife and refuses to pay her ransom. Quaid is currently negotiating for the role of this asshole husband.
The one drawback at this time seems to be the lack of involvement from QT, though seeing Aniston in a slightly different type of role is cool. Of course, the plot of this film could still pass as a dark comedy, so she's not totally in unfamiliar surroundings in the film. I must admit I'm far more interested to watch the Hawkes/Mos Def combination at work in this one.
