Friday, February 17, 2012 at 2:12PM Fearless Forecast: 'Ghost Rider' Reigns Supreme In Slow Weekend

It's Presidents Day weekend but that doesn't really mean anything to me. I love this country but c'mon, how do you even celebrate Presidents day anyway? I have an idea, go to the movies. Opening this weekend are This Means War, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and The Secret World of Arrietty, but only one can rule them all and my guess is Nic Cage will, chains and all.
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is the sequel to the 2007 film, Ghost Rider, which also starred Nic Cage. I haven't heard to many great things about the first film as it was one of the worst films of the year. It earned a 26% on Rotten Tomatoes and earn $45 million dollars in its debut five years ago. But will audiences shy away from the sequel when the first film was deemed a failure? Maybe, but that will explain the low numbers this weekend. This Means War is yet another action film directed by McG. McG hasn't made a good action movie since...

Rotten Tomatoes says Charlie's Angels but I still don't know. By the way, who wants to go see a film with Chelsea Handler in it, anyway?
The Secret World of Arrietty looks interesting but it's not the type of film that I would rush out to go see in theaters. Matter of fact, I haven't seen a Studio Ghibli film ever and I've always wanted to. I don't think audiences will gravitate toward this but Arrietty would definitely make it in to the top ten this week.
Which films will bleed over from last week to this ones?
1. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance $24 M
2. This Means War $18.8 M
3. Safe House $15.2 M
4. The Vow $10.4 M
5. The Secret World of Arrietty $7.5 M
