Will Smith Returning to Legend Status?

Has it really been since 2008 since Will Smith was in a movie?   Wow time flies when you aren’t really paying attention huh?  It seems the former King of the July 4^th weekend is ready for his close up once again.  With MIB 3 ready to possibly…more than likely… underwhelm us in 3 months time, there is now renewed talks of sequels to both Hancock and I Am Legend. 

I’ll admit it’s hard to dislike Will Smith.  The guy, just like George Clooney, has this way about him that no matter what he does, I’ll always take somewhat of an interest in.   He hasn’t been in a movie that I really hated.  Sure I’ll never watch Wild Wild West or Hitch again, but they weren’t the worst things ever to grace the silver screen.  Well, okay, Wild West West was...how should I say this kindly...a missed opportunity.

So will Hancock 2 and I Am Legend 2 ever see the light of day?  Hard to tell at this point, but the wheels on the bus are going round and round.  Personally, I’d rather see the I Am Legend sequel…if they go with the idea that has been batted around…making it a prequel by showing the events that led up to where the first movie began.  That idea sounds much more exciting, interesting and sound than doing a proper sequel (plus Will Smith died in the end) So prequel route... count me in on that.   If Hancock hadn’t completely lost its mind with its atrocious last 30 minutes of film, I’d be a little excited about a possible continuation.   But those were a rough 30 minutes and the more I think about it, I just don’t see any good coming out of another go around with John Hancock.  

But before any of this happens, there is another movie he’s doing.  M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth.   Yes kids it's true… a new M. Night Shyamalan movie…insert own joke here.  It might not be that bad…No, I’m totally kidding.  M Night didn’t write it (thank you 8lb 6oz new born infant Jesus) but at this point, M Night could screw up his kid’s birthday party video. 

 So good luck Big Willie with all that.
