Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 7:17AM 'G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation' Super Bowl TV Spot Will Impress Viewers

As painfully bad as G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was, it's sequel, Retaliation has made all the right moves thus far in distancing itself from that disaster. The decision to cast The Rock and Bruce Willis as the leads instead of relying solely on the mumbling beef cake Channing Tatum was the first improvement implemented by director Jon Chu and company. This year's Super Bowl commercials will include a Retaliation TV spot, and it's fairly good. From what I've seen it has all the ingredients necessary to fire up on the fence movie fans into actually seeing it this summer (June 29, 2012).
The 30-second trailer starts with Roadblock (Rock) quoting Jay Z lyrics before a mission and is followed with an impressive flurry of action sequences mostly involving the exploits of Snake Eyes and Roadblock, as they battle new and improved Cobra forces. It's wisely capped off with Willis, who plays General Joe Colton saying "Call me Joe." Who knew such a brief trailer could look far more appealing than it's predecessor?
Cobra Commander's appearance is even a marked improvement over the heavily breathing one which JGL portrayed in the first film. I can't say this trailer will be as popular or well received as the expected Avengers TV spot, but it should get more positive reviews than the John Carter one.
Here's the G.I. Joe spot you can see during commercial breaks of the Super Bowl. Yo Joe and Go Pats!
