Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 6:11PM Yipee Ki Yay! Fox Finds McClane Jr. for 'Die Hard 5'

The long, seemingly endless casting search for the heir to the McClane throne in the next Die Hard chapter has finally been seized by a surprise candidate, Jai Courtney from the Starz series Spartacus: Vengeance, 20th Century Fox Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman announced today. A Good Day to Die Hard will be the fifth and possibly last adventure of superstar cop John McClane (Bruce Willis), and many names have surrounded the vacancy to play his son in the film for months now.
In this next terrorist attack to be thwarted by the likes of the legendary McClane, the veteran policeman will travel to Russia to help his son (Courtney) wipe out some baddies. But here's a better, more official plot synopis regarding Courtney's character: "(Courtney) is caught up in a daring prison escape of a rogue Russian leader, and father and son must work together to keep each other alive and keep the world safe for democracy.”
Yep, that sounds just like the brand of Die Hard movie we've come to expect in this long heralded series. However, this will easily be the biggest yet, considering it's on an international scale and the fate of the world depends on the McClane tandem killing the competition. Not to mention the outcome could lead to the "passing of the torch" for the franchise.
I know zero about Courtney as an actor, though I've heard nothing but glowing reviews about the Spartacus series. Makes me think I need to watch the show before I can put my faith in Fox's decision to cast this dude as a the potential John McClane predecessor. That being said, I'll still see a Good Day to Die Hard no matter what. Die Hard was the first blockbuster I really loved as a young movie fan, so it's nice to see that tradition live on all these years later.
A Good Day to Die Hard will open in theaters on February 14, 2013. It will be directed by John Moore from a script written by Skip Woods.

FYI...Courtney's character on Spartacus was killed in the first season (Blood and Sand). Spartacus is an excellent show and is definitely a must see. Courtney played Spartacus' first friend at the House of Batiatus and eventually met his doom at the blade of Spartacus forced by the heads of the house.
Again great show and you should be watching it.
