Edgar Wright & Johnny Depp are Going Night Stalking. Throwing Records at Things Optional

With the stink of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World still following him (yes, I found nothing of value with that movie…sorry hipsters) Edgar Wright looks to make huge amends with this next project.  He’s attached to direct Johnny Depp in the big screen adaptation of The Night Stalker.  The Night Stalker was a TV movie back in 1972 and later became a TV series that starred Darren McGavin (the dad from A Christmas Story).  The idea has potential:

Carl Kolchak is a newspaper reporter with an abrasive personality that has gotten him fired ten times from various big-city papers. Now he's reduced to reporting for a relatively small-time paper in Las Vegas. It's here he gets the story of his life. But will the local sheriff, or the D.A., or even his own boss, let him print it? He has an ally in the FBI agent brought in to investigate this strange case. It seems someone is biting the necks of young girls and draining their blood. Can this killer with supernormal powers really be a 70-year-old Romanian millionaire?  Can he really be a vampire? And can an aging reporter do anything to stop him?

While the idea of another movie featuring vampires sounds about as appealing as watching children play with a bag of broken glass; the thought of having this movie star Johnny Depp and directed by the guy who, after all, gave us Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, makes it not completely suck.  Depp excels at this sort of thing.  Plus, I guess the TV series dealt with more than just vampires (like werewolves, zombies and the like), so maybe they’ll take that angle.  Either way, I can see this movie being…I hate to use this word…but… fun.  Yeah, I said it, fun…fun, fun, fun.  Wait a minute, investigating vampires and werewolves…any chance they can hunt and kill Edward and Jacob?  A man can dream can’t he?  No writer has been attached but I would imagine that will happen soon.  Hopefully this all comes together and we have have a go picture, because it sounds…fun.  Sorry.

Speaking of Johnny Depp, when are we going to see a trailer for Dark Shadows?  What’s the deal Tim Burton?  Hate to bug you about this, but the movie is apparently coming out in May?  Can you get on that?

Hipsters only liked Scott Pilgrim? What the fuck? This site (back when it was actually good) gave it 4 Dirty Apes douche bag. I don't even know why I keep checking this site. It is a complete piece of shit since Colin left. Lackluster writing and no sources for shit on here. I'm done with this big piling piece of shit now. Have a good life fuck faces.

I think they should just digitize Johnny Depp so then he can be in EVERYTHING just like they want.
They just better have a good idea. This has been done, X Filed, homaged in the "Millennium" tv series, rebooted as a tv series. Depp's already played a similar character in "The 9th Gate and any number of movies have a "reporter investigating something strange" premise. Unles they're making this an all-out parody - which better be funny - I'd say they should just go ahead and put Johnny Depp on Gilligan's Island. They'd probably want him to play the whole castaway cast.

I think they should just digitize Johnny Depp and computer render him so then he could be in EVERYTHING the way they seem to want him. Kolchak has been tv movied, serialized, cult followed, X Filed, homaged in the Millennium series, rebooted as a tv series, Depp played a similar character in "The Ninth Gate" and then how many other countless movies have a "reporter investigating something strange" premise. IF they're going to do this AGAIN it should at least be a parody - and it BETTER be funny. I think they should just save their money and put Depp on Gilligan's Island and maybe a computer multiplied version of him could play the entire castaway cast.
