Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 1:03PM Dead or Alive 'The Killing' Star will Become 'RoboCop'?

I missed Joel Kinnaman in The Darkest Hour, as well as the Deadline report on Friday that says he's been offered the Alex Murphy lead in the new RoboCop. And according to the films IMDB page, he's accepted. It's just shoddy journalism on my part. Forgive me.
However, I did catch Mr. Kinnaman's deceptively stellar performance on AMC's The Killing, and have been a major proponent of the need for a RoboCop reboot (no offense to the past effort by legendary director Paul Verhoeven). Hollywood currently has a hard on to remake most of Verhoeven's great, yet slightly corny films: Total Recall and Starship Troopers in addition to the refresher on everyone's favorite cyborg cop.
I must admit Kinnaman is a peculiar choice for Jose Padilha's version of RoboCop when compared to Peter Weller, though I'm thrilled they've opted to not pick a Wahlberg type here. He played a sleazy, hardnosed cop to perfection in The Killing, so portraying a Detroit beat cop who gets shot to pieces shouldn't be a tough transition. Kudos to Padilha and company for thinking outside the box on this one, and if I ever get to see his Elite Squad films, buried in my NetFlix que at the moment, I'll get a feel of his perspective on RoboCop.
So if Kinnaman is in, are we excited? I know I am, but want to hear from you...
