Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 2:50PM Box-Office Weekend Results: 'Chronicle' Wins Slow Super Bowl Weekend

I was right to give the top spot to Chronicle this time, but I didn't think that this weekend would be as slow despite the Super Bowl. After all, the Super Bowl is the highest rated sports event on television in the world and it could very well be the number one sports event broadcasted via the internet as well. Well, all you care about is who placed what in this weekends box office. After all you aren't reading this for nothing.

As you see from above, Chronicle won this weekend with $22 million, just $2.9 million shy of my estimate on Friday. It hasn't really swept the box office away with fans as our own David Hoffman gave the film two abiding dudes. But I still want to check it out. It surprised me that The Woman in Black placed second. I guess people really need a good scare every now and again. The film starring Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame has gotten some favorable reviews from critics and even four abiding dudes from David Hoffman.
The Grey placed third despite the film attempting to pick up steam as a great action film and a great film nonetheless. Suprisingly, Big Miracle placed in the top five depsite my ruling that it would place sixth with an abysmal $5 million. Finally, Underworld: Awakening placed fifth with $5.6 million.
I hope you guys enjoy the Super Bowl tonight. I'm not really a sports guy but for events like this, I'm always down to watch it, even if it is just to watch the newest commercials.
