I do wish that I could have been a fly on the wall when Disney's upcoming John Carter was pitched. It's a movie based on a series of pulp novels from the early 1900s, detailing battles on a Mars that we now know to be grossly scientifically innacurate. Is that something that modern audiences can take seriously? Having said, that I think that it's turning out looking pretty good, especially after the Super Bowl Ad and the release of seven new photos from CineHeroes. Check the other six out after the jump.

Looking good. At this point, my only real wish is that Mars could look a bit more...you know...red? Of course, that would cost more, and since I've spent my last few posts criticizing excessive Hollywood spending, I should probably be happy with their restraint.
John Carter debuts on March 9th. It is directed by Andrew Stanton and stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, and Willem Dafoe.

Well, as it goes on there'll probably be the whole question of whether or not this is a mythical Mars, or one that existed in the past or solely in the mind of John Carter. It all goes back to a different type of fantasy/adventure - that basically gave rise to the fantasy/adventure we have today. I DO wonder if this newer generation can make the jump to the kind of story and style this is and I wonder what and if the producers of this have done to bring it closer to a newer generation without compromising what older fans know and love about it. This has been around - and adaptation attempts have been talked about - for a LONG time, so it's great to see this finally well realized, judging from the promos so far.
