Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 10:19PM Morgan Freeman Joins 'Oblivion' With Tom Cruise

You can’t begrudge any filmmaker who wants Morgan Freeman to lend their acting talents. His narration voice work for March of the Penguins and Science Channel series Through the Wormhole, has Freeman giving the voice of god. A role, I might add, he’s already played in Bruce Almighty. The acting legend is wanted for a “critical role” in Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise and from TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski.
The film is said that it “follows the last man (Cruise) on a post-apocalyptic and nearly uninhabitable Earth, who stays behind to repair ships that hunt down and blast a virulent alien species.” The role that Freeman will be playing is still unclear. It should be noted that Freeman has been involved in another apocalyptic film with Tom Cruise, giving the narration to the Steven Spielberg directed War of the Worlds.
Not to worry, because just last month Freeman and Cruise will be joined by Olga Kurylenko (Jessica Chastain was originally cast, but had to leave the project) and Andrea Riseborough. It’s said that Toy Story 3 and Little Miss Sunshine writer Michael Arndt is polishing the script where the most recent draft was written by William Monahan, based on the comic from Arvid Nelson.
The film is set up at Universal and is eyeing July 19, 2013 release date.
