New 'RoboCop' Viral Campaign Gives Us More Than 5 Seconds to Comply

RoboCop was a great movie, hands down.  Sure some of the satire seems a little cheesy by today’s standards but it holds up better than most films that came out in the 80’s.  Actually it holds up really well.  So the idea of a remake seems, to put it plainly, dumb.  But I’m not the guy in charge, so a remake we shall get.  And with the remake about to go into production a new viral campaign has surfaced in the form of an Omnicorp commercial with a shot of an old friend…the ED-209.

So while the viral ad doesn’t offer much (outside of the ED-209 and a slight peek at what RoboCop will look like), I think it gives you some feeling of how the overall tone of the remake might play out, which from the looks of it, might be in line with the original.  I will say this, the one thing the remake does having going for it is the director and the cast.  Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Hugh Laurie… I’ve never really seen Joel Kinnaman in anything but I hear good things.  My only real complaint with the casting is that Oldman isn’t playing the bad guy.  The guy is so good at it.  But oh well, hopefully Laurie can bring the crazy.

Hopefully the remake will do the original justice.  Out of all the remakes that are in the pipeline, I do have some faith that this will work.    Robocop is scheduled to be released Aug 9th 2013
