At this point, I have to admit I'm more than a little sick of hearing about the Ghostbusters 3 drama. It's been in development hell for years now, but like the ghosts that need to get sucked up, it just...won't...die. Most recently, the drama came from whether or not series mainstay Bill Murray would return. The answer to that question always switched between "no" and "maybe", but now we have a definitive answer from Dan Aykroyd. In case you didn't read the title, it's "no."
According to FilmJunk, Aykroyd said,
"It’s sad but we’re passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one."
That, of course, all depends on whether or not this movie even gets made. I'm guessing it won't, and I'd honestly be happier that way. The first Ghostbusters is a classic, but the second one was really underwhelming. Frankly, I'd rather not risk them running the franchise further into the ground. Does anyone out there disagree with me?
