"What was all that one in million talk?"
It appeared a long discussed Dumb & Dumber sequel was dead on arrival when Jim Carrey jumped ship on the Farrelly's follow-up Dumb & Dumber To. The rubber faced comedian was peeved at the studio for not moving forward on the project fast enough, however despite that obvious setback co-star Jeff Daniels recently said the sequel is happening with everyone in the mix. Everyone!
Daniels spoke about this very topic with Crave Online, while promoting his new HBO series The Newsroom. Here's what Dumb & Dumber's Harry Dunne had to say,
"Jim wants to do it. I want to do it. The Farrellys want to do it. They want to rewrite the script a little bit and they aren’t trying to jam it in before I have to go back and do ‘Newsroom’ in November. So they’re going, ‘Why don’t we just do it right? Let’s get everybody organized to go next May or June.’ If everything works out on the business side, that’s what we’ll do but I think there’s more hope than ever."
Perhaps was miffed about the slowness of the project after all, though New Line was reportedly not sold on the first script for the film. Daniels admits how frustrated the situation made him and Carrey, feeling like they were all pleased with the script.
"I think Jim just got frustrated and I completely got it. I was frustrated too. We thought it was in pretty good shape. The studio and others wanted some more work done it. The Farrellys wanted more work done on it so they got working on it and I think last week they decided to push the shooting of it to next year, possibly because I wasn’t going to move ‘The Newsroom'."
It sounds like maybe the films stars need to take a chill pill, considering the writers weren't even enthused with their first script. Afterall, the Farrellys haven't exactly had a winning track record as of late.
Either way, I think this is a sequel everyone has wanted to see since the original gave us so many unforgettable lines in 1994. Daniels' comments lead me to believe Dumb & Dumber To is back on just not as soon as many of us would like to see it.
