Monday, September 17, 2012 at 11:10AM It's A Bird! It's A Plane! It's Anthony Mackie as The Falcon in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'!
I believe he could fly.
Even after announcing that there will be a steady stream of superhero movies well into the near future, Marvel just keeps adding more and more fuel for the fire. There is a wide selection of superhero characters that can be placed to their films, both as a marketing strategy and servicing the fans. Now word is coming by way of Comingsoon.net saying that the beloved winged superhero Falcon will be making an appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, played by rising star Anthony Mackie. The future certainly is bright, dear readers.
If you've been watching films in the last six years, you'll probably seen Anthony Mackie, even if you don't realize it. He boasts an impressive resume of roles in such films as Million Dollar Baby, We Are Marshall, The Hurt Locker, Real Steel, and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The man even played Tupac in 2009's Notorious. Now the esteemed actor will be tackling another African American icon, Sam Wilson, or as he's better know, The Falcon.
The character was born in Harlem then fled to Los Angeles and became a drug dealing pimp, but after his plane crashes on an island filled with Nazi sympathisers, he acquires the ability to speak to birds, know what his pet falcon is thinking, and fly like his new feathered brethren. Somehow it always comes back to Nazis.
Despite debuting after The Panther, whose film adaptation may or may not be made, The Falcon is Marvel's first African American superhero, since The Panther is technically an African hero. There's no word on how The Falcon will exactly fit into the forthcoming sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger. We know that the film will see the return of Buck Barnes as the Winter Soldier namesake, a story arch in which The Falcon does play a role, so I suppose we'll just have to watch the skies when the film comes out on April 4, 2014.
