If there is something Marlon Wayans seems to be successful at, it’s spoof movies. So it comes as no surprise that when his latest stab at satire, Haunted House, was close to completion, went looking for a distributor, Open Road Films (along with Endgame Entertainment), jumped in and acquired all U.S. distribution rights.. Wayans, co-wrote, co-produced and starred in the IM Global’ genre label Octane, production. Besides Wayans, Haunted House also stars Cedric The Entertainer (Madagascar), Nick Swardson (Just Go with It), and David Koechner (Waiting).
House is described as a found footage horror film spoof and takes on the Paranormal Activity franchise as well as The Devil Inside. It features a young couple, Malcolm (Wayans) and Kisha (Are We There Yet’s Essence Atkins), who have just moved in to their dream house. In following the stock plot, they sense that they’re not alone in the house as a demon has also moved in, but moved in to Kisha’s body as opposed to the house itself. Malcolm brings in every type of ghost ridding organization in an effort to evict the spirit and save his sex life.
Frequent Wayans collaborator Rick Alvarez (White Chicks) also co-wrote and co-produced. Michael Tiddes, who served as Alvarez’s assistant on White Chicks and Littleman, is credited with helming his first feature film. I trust Wayans and Alvarez to give us another hilarious entry into the spoof movie genre, that is, if they can duplicate the effort they put forth with the underrated White Chicks. Wayans might be the funniest member of the Wayans clan, and that is saying a lot. House is set to bow in theaters next January.
