New 'Evil Dead' Red Band Trailer Goes in One Ear, Blood, Lots of Blood, Out the Other

Well, whether we’re excited about it or not, the Evil Dead remake will soon be upon us (April 12th).  And now the good folks Sony Pictures have given us a new red band trailer.  If you like a little movie with your blood and gore, this is the trailer for you.  Most of you already know the story and the trailer displays that, instead taking the more is less approach.  And by more I mean blood…lots and lots of blood.

Now, I’ve expressed my reservations before regarding this remake, even with Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell overseeing it as producers.  My beef was, why?  Why remake something that doesn’t really need to be improved upon?  But they obviously felt something was needed so here it is.  I will admit that I’m somewhat intrigued and from the trailer, it looks like they don’t seem to be taking the high road and softening the violence at all.  At least that’s a plus.

And while it appears they won’t be straying too far in the storyline dept, this movie’s success will come down to the cast and director.  Since you don’t have Bruce Campbell as the almighty Ash, you have instead 4 relative unknowns in the acting dept and one uknown director that have been given the task of not making us walk out of the theater hating Sam Raimi for allowing this to happen.  Good luck guys, that will be a mighty tall mountain to climb, but I will give you a chance to impress me, or at the very least not hating Sam Raimi once the credits roll.

But Raimi and Campbell were unknowns when the first one came out and look how that turned out...

This new red band trailer is a start in the right direction.

Yeah, I agree with you on the humor aspect. It's also good to see Raimi getting back to his roots. Drag me to Hell is such an underrated movie.

I'm right there with ya. I feel like Drag Me to Hell was a prime example of Raimi bringing his style to a new time with amazing makeup, great storytelling and grotesque animated humor. It was hilarious, freaky, and ended fabulously. If this remake is just a gore fest I'll deal, but give me that Raimi/Campbell charm.
