Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac is in the news once again, this time to announce that Magnolia Pictures has won the rights to distribute the films in the U.S. This occurred during a buyers-only event screening that demo’d material from the film’s first part. Of note is the film was actually created in two versions: one a solid R and a “hard-core” copy. The ensemble cast includes: Charlotte Gainsbourg (21 Grams), Stellan Skarsgård, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell (Jumper), Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe, and Connie Nielsen.
Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles had this to say shortly after the deal was made public: "After the tremendous and never predictable experience of distributing Melancholia, we couldn't be more excited to be working with Mr. von Trier again on the Nymphomaniac films,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. "He’s such an exciting and talented filmmaker—it's an honor and a thrill to be associated with his world."
Nymphomaniac is the wild and poetic story of a woman's erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as related to the man who finds her badly beaten body and takes her home to care for her.

Von Trier is still trying to regroup after his ill-advised Hitler comments a few years ago in Cannes. What would help his image greatly is if this film goes on to garner critical acclaim and he doesn't say anything nearly as stupid ever again. It also wouldn’t hurt if this film did solid box office whether it be the soft porn or the extreme version.
