Ford Shoots First! Return As Solo for 'Episode VII' A Done Deal?

You're all clear, kid, lets sign this deal and go home!

Without a lot of Star Wars news over the past few days, I almost forgot there was a new movie coming out…kidding, how can you forget?   It’s Star Wars, it’s Disney, it’s bigger than all of us.  With that being said, there is a rumor, which might not be shocking at all, or just might be a huge deal, depending on how much information you’ve ingested over the past few months regarding the franchise.  What’s the rumor? Well it seems like our ol’ pal Harrison Ford is set to return as Han Solo.

Shocked?  Ambivalent?  Horrified?  Beyond excited?  Now there has been nothing official announced, but website Latino Review is stating that Ford is signed on the dotted line to return as the man we all wanted to be when we were kids (and maybe still as adults)…Han Solo.  How do I feel about this?  I’m not quite sure.

While there is a huge part of me that is excited that Episode 7 is a continuation after Jedi, and that it seems like there is a concerted effort to have the original cast return in some capacity, I just hope it’s in the right capacity.   I would imagine the new trilogy will be a sort of a passing of the baton to a whole new set of characters, so putting the aces in their places is going to be huge in how successful or heartbreaking this new trilogy will be.

Not following me?  Well, let’s break it down like this:  Would you be down for a movie that features Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford running around fighting the empire for the entire movie, or would you rather seem them in more of a sage mentoring/leadership role that may have to kick a little ass when needed?  I’m hoping for the latter.   There is a comforting feeling knowing that J.J. Abrams and Michael Arndt are leading the charge so hopefully they utilize everyone in the right way.

I also hope the rumor is true and Ford does return, seeing him as Han Solo would be way cooler than seeing him again as Indiana Jones.   Episode 7 will hopefully hit theater screens in 2015.  May the force be with us all.
