As emotionally devastating as it was seeing Steve Rogers having to miss his date with Peggy Carter because the world needed him to be Captain America, she was stuck in the 50's and Cap was taking a long nap. It's a new millennium in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' and with that comes a new female lead. The Hollywood Reporter has recently confirmed that that new potential love interest is set to be played by Revenge star Emily VanCamp.
There are rumors about Winter Soldier being based on a story line from the 2000s centered around Bucky Barnes being resurrected like Steve Rogers and becoming a rouge agent named the Winter Soldier. If that is case, I would bet nearly anything that VanCamp will be playing Sharon Carter, a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and niece of Peggy Carter, Cap's former sweetheart. Although no major plot details have been released, the comic story featured the Winter Soldier abducting Sharon Carter, so there may be that plot device to fire up Captain America's patriotic rage.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier will feature Chris Evans reprising his role as the all-American Avenger as well as Sebastian Stan returning to play Bucky Barnes. Anthony Mackie is set to play The Falcon, another Marvel superhero that's finally getting a spot in the expanded universe sun. The film is being directed by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, and will hit theatres in April 2014.
