With all the big-budget franchise news that we've been focusing on lately, it's nice to have something to say for the indy scene. The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman is directed by Fredrik Bond, and stars Shia Lebeouf as a man who falls in love with a female member of the mob. It premiered at Sundance and has gotten a distributer, but it's still making the rounds around the festival circuit. Here's a clip:

For the most part it works well, giving the romance that we know nothing about a surprisingly deep and magical feeling. Evan Rachel Wood looks beautiful, and Lebeouf finally seems to be getting over his boyhood looks. It's a little hard to say whether I like the ending, because I found it darkly hilarious and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to. This is an indy film, after all. Either way, I'm hoping this is a able to secure a distributer, because it looks like it could be winner!
