The most amazing thing about Avatar wasn't its success but how quickly it dropped off the map. Think: when's the last time you had a conversation about it? This isn't an insult, I liked Avatar more than most. But, for a movie that blew Box Office records out of the water, people forgot quickly. Maybe it's because James Cameron is taking his time turning it into a series. Nonetheless, Avatar 2/3 is finally filming in early 2014, along with a little known film called Star Wars: Episode VII.
Actress Zoe Saldana appeared on the Jonathan Ross show, and had this to say about the sci-fi film,
I think that they’re doing a part two and a part three and they’re probably going to shoot it at the same time. Because if we just do two and then wait, I’ll probably be 45 or 50 by the time we get to part three. It takes a long time, it’s a very hard process.
This has been hinted at previously, and it's certainly a good idea from an organisational standpoint to film the two side-by-side.
On the Star Wars side of things, producer Bryan Burk had this to say about Star Wars Episode VII to Collider magazine:
We’re progressing on a schedule to hopefully begin next year, or the beginning of next year, and the location is still kind of floating around in the air all depending on script and a whole bunch of other issues. As I just said, everything is kind of a free-flowing thing, and when we feel like the story level on this script and everything is really coming together and schedules are all working and pieces line up, we prowl ahead, and Star Wars will be no different.
Now, I want to hear your thoughts: Do you still look back fondly at Avatar? Are you looking forward to Avatar 2 & 3 nearly as much as Star Wars: Episode VII? Let us know in the comments below!
