Vin Diesel Talks Acting As A Tree; Possible Starring Role In Another Marvel Movie

Say what you will about his acting abilities, but Vin Diesel seems to be a bit of a press genius.  He's been playing with the press for months, hinting at a role in a special Marvel movie, then specifying that it was Guardians of the Galaxy, and still taking his sweet time to reveal that he'll be voicing Grute, the giant tree guy.  In a recent interview, he dished out a couple more pieces of information, though.

Here's what he had to say:

It'll be voiceover, MoCap and all of that stuff. It's going to be super cool.

So, he's not just doing the voice, but recording the motions for the character as well.  Makes sense, I heard they even went to the trouble of getting actual raccoon movements for Rocket Raccoon.

Here's the second thing he had to say:

What we were initially talking about was a fresh IP, and that was the focus of our conversation. A fresh IP that would come out in 2016 or 2017 to potentially launch a third phase. When we went to Comic-Con, we realized that we wanted something more immediate. With my schedule, it was almost impossible to imagine I could do anything immediate. I guess after they watched The Iron Giant, or whatever, they came up with this idea of taking the strangest Marvel character -- or the strangest Marvel character that's ever hit film -- and thought what I could do with that with motion capture and with my voice.

Huh.  Vin Diesel starring in a standalone Marvel film.  It's an odd thing to hear, because there doesn't seem to be a blanat choice for the actor.  The three possible Phase III movies that we've heard of are Ant Man, Black Panther, and Dr. Strange.  None of those come even remotely close to matching Vin Diesel,  so it must be something we haven't heard about yet.  Let the speculation begin!
