It still seems like fanboy imagination, the idea of a new Mad Max movie. But we're getting one..supposedly. Mad Max: Fury Road filmed in 2012 but we have yet to see any awesome evidence of its existence. There was some scuttlebut (mostly internet fueled) that we might see the movie sometime later this year. Well Mad Max fans, that wait may take even longer as Fury Road is set to go back in front of the cameras later this year for reshoots. Since when did George Miller turn into Terrence Malick?
So for those of you who need to update their Mad Max scorecard here you go:
Fury Road started filming last summer, taking six months on principal photography. Since then, the movie has been sitting in the editing room. Now comes word there will be three weeks of reshoots (or some may say additional shooting) coming later this year. Why the delay? It could be as simple as Miller wanting to enhance certain parts of the story and trying to get all his principal actors back (Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicolas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz) couldn't happen until later in the year. It could be Miller hates what he has and is now trying to save a film that has taken so long to come to fruition. It could also mean that Miller has really turned into Terrence Malick and when Mad Max finally does get released, it will be starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis.
The most logical reason would seem to be my first idea. That with the busy schedules of all the actors involved, doing any reshoots (or additional shooting) couldn't happen until now. And I'm guessing Miller isn't too concerned about when this gets released, just as along as what gets released, it's what he has always envisioned. I'm fine with that, because really, all I want is a Mad Max movie that kicks ass. And with Tom Hardy in the lead role, that's a good first start on the road to kick ass supremacy. Hopefully Miller feels the same way.
Mad Max Fury Road will be released...sometime.
