Adrien Brody Looking Oscar Worthy in 'Detachment' Trailer

Adrien Brody is phenomenal in every performance, even if the movie he headlines isn't the greatest (Wrecked, The Jacket, Hollywoodland).  Next up for this Oscar-winning actor is a star studded drama called Detachment, which comes to us courtesy of American History X director Tony Kaye and has future award nomination for Brody written all over it.

In Detachment, Brody plays a subsititute teacher with a mysterious past.  This story revolves around the lives of high school teachers and students from the perspective of the substitute during his three week tour of duty at the school.

Adrien Brody Gets 'Wrecked' In New Trailer

Adrien Brody is one of my favorite actors working today for one simple reason:  he makes interesting choices.  He makes the films that he wants to make, and makes them with reckless abandon.  His new film Wrecked seems to be no different.  Brody plays a man who wakes up from a grizzly car accident in the woods with no memory of who he is or what just happened.  And to make things worse there's a couple of dead bodies he can't explain.

DVD New Release of the Week: 'Splice'

I was tempted to pick The Karate Kid as the new release of the week not because that movie was so great, but because this week's releases are pretty poor.  In fact, you should probably rent one of the films we covered on last week's DVD New Release of the Week article.

Splice stars Adrian Brody and Sarah Polley as genetic engineers who specialize in splicing the DNA of animals to create new forms of life.  They secretly conduct an experiment to splice a human and creates a superhuman creature that goes on a rampage through town.  Here's an interview with Wired.com couple weeks ago that sums this movie up quite well:

Less-Than-Fantastic 'Fantastic Four' Casting Rumors

Some ice breaking on the new Fantastic Four reboot over at Fox. Since ComicBookMovie is one of the sources here and the site says that any movement on F4 will wait until after the studio is sure X-Men: First Class is a moneymaker, this could be very premature. Still, I guess it doesn't hurt to spitball some casting ideas.

Screenrant reports that the studio likes Either Jonathan Rhys Meyers or Adrien Brody for Mr. Fantastic. Either would be an upgrade of the solid but forgettable (or at least not memorable) Ioan Gruffudd. They might need a bigger draw than either of those guys if they want the property to do better than it has in the past; clearly, the name Fantastic Four won't be enough to move $200 million worth of tickets in the US, and given that it's a used car now... The other rumor involves Sue Storm. ComicBookMovie says Alice Eve, who was in the running for First Class, and Amber Heard (ditto) are both possibilities. I had trouble taking Jessica Alba seriously, both as a blonde and an esteemed scientist. Of the two, I think Alice Eve probably has a more natural believability. Heard's just 24, and Eve is closer to 30.

Will Adrien Brody Get To Play Ant-Man?

He's been in a couple movies this summer and now Adrien Brody may be staking a claim for summer 2012. Independent reports suggest he's raising his hand to play Hank Pym, also known as Ant-Man, for director Edgar Wright's standalone film and possibly Marvel's Avengers, should Joss Whedon keep the character around as expected. However, there's one big voice of dissension, as well.

John Campea, formerly of The Movie Blog and now a writer for Script to Screen, Tweeted that he had heard Brody was the pick and Latino Review followed up with Brody's agents at Paradigm who, in an unusual move, confirmed that they were pursuing the project, although there's been no pen to paper moves just yet. Then Campea fired back that Wright told him none of it's true.
