'The Avengers' Grace the Covers of Empire Online

Perhaps the greatest upcoming summer season of movies is almost upon us.  The second biggest (Sorry folks The Dark Knight Rises should be huge) summer blockbuster, Joss Whedon's The Avengers grace the covers of the next Empire Online issue along with some new images from the movie hitting the shelves on January 26th.

This soon to be top Marvel movie ever, just a hunch, is still several months away from arriving in theaters (May 4th), but you wouldn't know by all the recent publicity it's received.

Standard Set of Character Posters for 'The Avengers'

The Avengers is quite possibly the most anticipated film of next year and we were already introduced to an exciting theatrical trailer.  What can Disney and Marvel do next to remind fans of how awesome the film will be?  They release character posters.  Yes, that's right, character posters.  We have Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, and more.  But the question is, are they any good?

The answer to that is no, not really.  Honestly, a brown paper bag has much more style than these posters.  Don't believe me?  Check them out for yourself.

Joss Whedon Talks 'Avengers', Reminds Us Why We Love Him So Much

If you're a superhero fan, you don't need me to tell you why the upcoming Avengers movie is such a big deal.  We got four big-budget superhero movies, all with an interconnected continuity, and now we get to see a crossover between all of them directed by the guy who was responsible for Firefly.  Of course, he also wrote Alien: Resurrection, so we don't have 100% certainty it'll work.  But if Yahoo! Movies' recent interview with Joss Whedon is anything to go by, we shouldn't be worried.

Joss Whedon Describes Details of Axed 'Wonder Woman' Script

There was actually a failed Wonder Woman TV pilot shown earlier this year. Trust me, this caption is all the mention it deserves.

Of all the major DC heroes, Wonder Woman was always going to be one of the hardest to sell to the public.  An Amazonian goddess whose powers include the use of an invisible plane and a lasso that makes you tell the truth?  That's out there, even by comic standards.  But if there's one person who could have pulled that off, it would have been Buffy creator and Avengers director Joss Whedon.  In a recent interview with Rookie Mag, Whedon revealed some details about what his ultimately rejected Wonder Woman script entailed,

New Trailer for 'The Avengers'

Quick declaration: I bow down to anything from nearly God-like creaotr Joss Whedon like any respectful fanboy would.  With that I have kept my impressions of his theatrical directorial efforts of The Avengers to a respectable aweing.  Certainly many comic book fans have been waiting for Marvel's long-gestating franchise culmination in The Avengers and we have a trailer to thank them for it.
