New 'Battlestar Galactica' Movie Finds Itself a Writer

Director Bryan Singer plans to bring famed sci-fi TV series Battlestar Galactica to the big screen.  That we know.  In fact, it's going to be his next project after he completes Jack the Giant Killer with Ewan McGregor.  Now Battlestar Galactica is coming together so quickly that the studio has hired writer John Orloff to pen the script, Deadline reported earlier.

Orloff most recently wrote the script for Roland Emmerich's upcoming film Anonymous that apparently reveals whether or not Bill Shakespeare was a fraud.

Bryan Singers Says a 'Battlestar Galactica' Movie is His Next

Perhaps, Warner Bros. acquiring another Knights of the Round Table movie (Arthur & Lancelot), thus ruining director Bryan Singer's plans for his own movie Excalibur was a huge blessing in disguise.  Why you ask?  

The King Arthur vehicle folding means we'll be seeing Singer's follow-up project, a Battlestar Galatica film adaptation sooner rather than later, according to SFX.  The most recent TV series remake of the original late-1970's Battlestar Galatica had an extensive fan base, and many folks including myself were super bummed when the series ended after four outstanding seasons.

Bryan Singer Making a 'Battlestar Galactica' Movie

Are we in the midst of a Bryan Singer comeback? Valkyre did OK and was a pretty effective historical potboiler, and now it's been announced that he'll direct and produce an upcoming Battlestar Galactica movie, something that hadn't really even been speculated about in its new form.

The original series, created by Glen Larson, aired over 30 years ago. It was probably more a reaction to the success of Star wars than anything else, but it actually turned out OK, considering its main characters were named Apollo and Starbuck. The reinvented series, of course, was something of a revelation for science fiction fans everywhere. That show, which just completed its run in March on SciFi (now SyFy, stupidly), has been at the top of critics' lists for half a decade. But there's no way this movie news could really appease hardcore fans of the most recent series. If Bryan Singer made a movie based on that universe, they'd be screaming for Ronald D. Moore, and if by chance Universal and Singer were clocking it back to the original series and inventing something new out of that material...well, those fans would still want Ron Moore.

'BSG' Star Katee Sackhoff as Marvel's Typhoid Mary?

The question of whether or not Marvel should allow another Daredevil movie is not an easy one. The movie we got, with Ben Affleck, was pretty lousy. But the character is so great and it could be one of the better Marvel movies if done the right way. There's been talk of a reboot, but nothing concrete.

Well now Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles mentions on its blog (via Screenrant) that Katee Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica recently came in and picked up as many Typhoid Mary comics as she could get her hands on. If you know the history of that character, she has been use primarily in Daredevil, although with Marvel's cross-pollination, she could also be used in the Deadpool movie.

'Battlestar Galactica' DVD and Blu-ray Artwork

We told you a few weeks ago that Battlestar Galactica will release its final season on DVD and Blu-ray on July 28th. Now we've got the new artwork for both Battlestar Galactica: Season 4.5 and Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series, courtesy of DVD Active.

The fourth season will retail for $49.98, $69.98 Blu-ray, and the complete series can be yours for $279.98 on DVD, but why not go all-out and sacrifice a full car payment on the Blu-ray box set?
