Darren Aronofsky at the Golden Globe Awards
After having Black Swan cross the $300 million in box-office revenue (a little film that could) and dropping his involvement from The Wolverine, Darren Aronofsky is thought to be wanted by two major Hollywood studios for big-budgeted pictures: Warner Bros. with Moses and Disney with Maleficent.

Before director Marc Webb was whisked away on his Spider-Man adventure, he was developing a post-apocalyptic sci-fi film entitled Age of Rage. Not much has been said about the project since Webb has been spending 24/7 with the webslinger. But, now that Spider-Man is well into physical production, Fox Searchlight, which owns the rights to Age of Rage, has hired a writer for Webb in hopes to get things moving again. And, the studio didn't have to look far for their scribe as they've hired Black Swan co-writer Mark Heyman.

You know what they say about first impressions, you only get one. And, that my friends, is why there are few things in the film industry more powerful than a trailer. Trailers can make terrible films look incredible (I'm looking at you M. Night) and in the worst of times can cause incredible films to lose an audience (colon, frowny face Scott Pilgrim).

Friday, July 30, 2010 at 8:11PM Fox Searchlight has become an awards season leader over the past few years and while I don't expect this is the last we've heard from the boutique studio between now and then - there are still the films at the Toronto Film Fest to weed through - Searchlight has locked in two of its big candidates.
Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 12:06PM USA Today featured some new shots of Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan on Thursday, and what with at the Comic-Con stuff, we just never had a chance to get to them until now. The film features Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, both pictured in the set, but we begin with Portman all dressed up for one of her character's ballet performances.
"Pressures mount as her overbearing mother (Barbara Hershey) pushes her to succeed and her manipulative dance master (Vincent Cassel) commands her to be more seductive and loose in her performance. Complicating matters is the arrival of Lily (Kunis), a sultry dancer who exhibits all the innate ease and sexuality that Nina lacks. Nina begins to fixate on the newcomer as the two forge an unusual relationship."The film will open the Venice Film Festival in September, and a late fall release is likely in the US.
