Brett Ratner's 'Tower Heist' Trailer

You may know Brett Ratner from the days of Rush Hour.  Since then, he really hasn't done much.  He was thinking of taking on Conan, but ultimately passed.  He's instead been working on a new project called Tower Heist which not surprisingly has a similar feel to Rush Hour and it's a comedy heist film that brings many celebrities together like Oceans Eleven.

The film stars Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Matthew Broderick, and Casey Affleck.  After watching the trailer, I can tell this can be a huge box office smash on November 4th.  I just like the fact that we're not seeing Eddie Murphy in another film where he plays all the characters in the movie.

Ben Stiller, Casey Affleck & Has Beens in New Trailer & Poster for 'Tower Heist'

Looks like Ben Stiller's streak of shit movies continues its rampage adding the comedy Tower Heist to the growing list, coming out November 4, 2011.  The worst part is he somehow convinced talented actors like Casey Affleck (the other Affleck) and Michael Pena to join a cast with a couple of 80's movie has beens in Eddie Murphy and Matthew Broderick.  Throw in the name of director Brett Ratner, and now Tower Heist really sounds awful.

Brett Ratner to Direct 'Hercules: The Thracian Wars'?

It's good thing HBO has given me eight seasons of Entourage to watch, otherwise without Johnny Drama's acting woes, I probably wouldn't even know who Brett Ratner is.  With that knowledge, I learned he is the director who helped butcher the X-Men franchise, post-Bryan Singer being behind the camera for X-Men: The Last Stand. 

That being said, Vulture reports today that Ratner has started negotiations to direct Hercules: The Thracian Wars for MGM and Spyglass Entertainment.

Hercules was originally set up at Universal with Pete Berg attached to direct.  Last summer, Ratner was reportedly in talks with producer Avi Lerner to direct another Hercules project, which fell through.

Brett Ratner Directing Ben Stiller in 'Tower Heist'

It's been a while since Brett Ratner directed a movie. He's directed, of course; the guy's made tons of commercials in the past couple years. But in terms of films, Ratner hasn't made one since Rush Hour 3.

There have been a couple TV shows and a segment in the anthology New York, I Love You, but Tower Heist will be his first feature film in four years or so. What's Tower Heist? Deadline says it's about a group of hotel workers who, realizing the Bernie Madoff-type character who stole their pensions is being held under house arrest at their hotel, plan a heist to get even. Ben Stiller will play the manager of the hotel and the ringleader, so I suddenly think this is a dark comedy along the lines of that ABC show about guys robbing Mick Jagger's apartment. I think it lasted about three weeks.

Hugh Hefner Says 'Playboy' Movie Still a Go

It looks as though that Hugh Hefner bio-pic will be happening in the next year or two. MovieWeb caught up with Hef, not so surprisingly at the Playboy Mansion, and the publisher and robed raconteur provided a tiny update.

"Oh yes, Brian Grazer (is producing it), yes, it's going to happen," Hef said of Playboy, a fitting title. "It's taken a long time to get the right director and the right screenplay but it's happening." Now hold on there, Hef. If it's taken a long time to get the right director, does that mean Brett Ratner's out? Because he was linked to this thing two years ago. The script is a different matter, but I'm kind of hoping they did replace Ratner. Hef doesn't say that outright, of course, but we can dream, can't we?
