'Evil Dead' Remake Confirmed on Twitter?

Bruce Campbell joined twitter last week and immediately started posting and answering fan questions. When asked if the Evil Dead remake was still happening he responded, “Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.” Ash seems to know what he’s talking about.

Dates and Locations for 'Evil Dead' Re-Release

Remember about a month ago when we told you The Evil Dead would soon be returning to theaters? It'll be a limited run arriving first in Minneapolis on January 8th, with Grindhouse Releasing getting the nod of approval from Sam Raimi, producer Robert Tapert, and Bruce Campbell for the relaunch.

Bloody Disgusting had the most up-to-date list of dates, which as of now runs through May, symbolic of the way independent horror movies and other cult films had to be released nationwide, weekend-by-weekend without a major nationwide campaign. And the best way to see an old horror classic is definitely on the big screen, before home video or cable was much of an option. Talking about the re-release, Campbell said in a statement, “Nothing can prepare an audience for what they are about to see, because nothing punishes an audience like Evil Dead - especially on the big screen. I’m really glad it’s back. People are gonna be hurt.” Here are the cities that have been announced:

'The Evil Dead' Coming Back to Theaters

The validity of re-releasing a great film has been proven in the recent past. The Exorcist celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1998 by earning about $40 million, and the practice used to be fairly common. If you're over 30, you probably saw a Star Wars re-release at least once. So when remakes are announced, a lot of our readers wonder why they don't just re-release the classic.

Geek Tyrant reports that The Evil Dead will be put back in theaters in the US and Canada, courtesy of Grindhouse Releasing, the self-described "undisputed leader in quality exploitation." Perhaps wisely, the plan is to go with midnight screenings for this theatrical run, and with the popularity of that kind of programming, it's a clever move for Grindhouse to pick up the tab on this since so many independent theaters likely already put The Evil Dead in their schedules.

Raimi Confirms More Bruce Campbell in 'Spidey 4'

Bruce Campbell promised he'd be a bigger part of Spider-Man 4, even though he's had three small fanboy-pleasing cameos in the first three films in the series. Tough to know whether or not to believe Campbell, though, because he's got such a long history with director Sam Raimi that, much like his appearances in the Spider-Man movies, it could be a tongue-in-cheek joke.

But Raimi has backed up his friend and collaborator, telling MTV, "I promised him we would write something because I really love putting him in the pictures." Added Raimi, "I promised him a good, meaty role." Sounds great, right? But Raimi adds he doesn't know what that part is yet. Now that I don't believe. More than likely, it's something Raimi doesn't want to say. There has been a consistent rumor that Campbell might be playing Mysterio, and you might think that's a big step up from his usual film roles, but please, look around at the reclamation projects in big tentpole movies over the past few years.

Bruce Campbell Says 'Spidey 4' Has More Bruce

Who knows whether or not Bruce Campbell is just having fun with the press, but the greatest chin in show business told Access Hollywood that he'll be back in Spider-Man 4. OK, so that part's not news; Campbell has had cameos in each of the previous three movies in the series and his working relationship with Sam Raimi goes back 30 years.

But Access Hollywood asked Campbell on the red carpet for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs to give a status report on Spidey 4, and the actor said he would have a bigger role in the film, but confessed not knowing what his character would be. Campbell did say that filming would begin in January but was not forthcoming with details about who the villain or villains would be. So I wonder if Campbell would be one of the villains? Just a thought, not a hunch.
