'Evil Dead' Remake Red Band Trailer Requires a Strong Stomach

We're generally pessimistic regarding remakes here at GTBP, so I found it difficult to fully trust Bruce Campbell's praise of an Evil Dead remake that he's the producer of.  Even the spooky picture above wasn't convincing enough for me to garner much interest in.  Well, a newly released red band trailer of the new Evil Dead installment is here and has me singing a different tune.  This a horror remake we should all be very afraid of, as it's got the gore and craziness to back up that claim.

Bruce Campbell: 'Evil Dead' Remake Doesn't Suck!

Sam Raimi's horror classic The Evil Dead is a movie that you just don't remake.  It'd be like remaking Alien.  Fans are predictably pissed that they are actually doing it, but here's one silver lining in the whole thing: The people behind the scenes actually have the common sense to realize it.  But now, someone has ridden in to rescue them.  Probably with a hot chick on his side and a chainsaw grafted on his hand.  That's right, it's Bruce Campbell, and he has everything positive to say about the remake.

'Evil Dead' Remake Talk With Jane Levy & Bruce Campbell

Not to long ago Lily Collins left The Evil Dead remake and a recent television comedy breakout star of the season, now appearing on ABC's SuburgatoryJane Levy has joined in her place.  This bit of casting makes me hopeful that we won't be getting a similar tone with the Collin's starring Mirror Mirror, but there's still trepidation on behalf of the cult-like fanbase of Sam Raimi's original film.  Jane Levy and Bruce Campbell offered some words of comfort.

The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.” Ash seems to know what he’s talking about.

Dates and Locations for 'Evil Dead' Re-Release

Remember about a month ago when we told you The Evil Dead would soon be returning to theaters? It'll be a limited run arriving first in Minneapolis on January 8th, with Grindhouse Releasing getting the nod of approval from Sam Raimi, producer Robert Tapert, and Bruce Campbell for the relaunch.

Bloody Disgusting had the most up-to-date list of dates, which as of now runs through May, symbolic of the way independent horror movies and other cult films had to be released nationwide, weekend-by-weekend without a major nationwide campaign. And the best way to see an old horror classic is definitely on the big screen, before home video or cable was much of an option.

Talking about the re-release, Campbell said in a statement, “Nothing can prepare an audience for what they are about to see, because nothing punishes an audience like Evil Dead - especially on the big screen. I’m really glad it’s back. People are gonna be hurt.”

Here are the cities that have been announced:
