Cameron Crowe's 'We Bought a Zoo' Debut Trailer

Cameron Crowe's first feature film in years, We Bought a Zoo could mark a triumphant return to movies for the writer/director of instant classics like Almost Famous, Say Anything...and Jerry Maguire.  In his newest creation, Matt Damon plays a single father who loses his wife to cancer and wants a life-altering change.  He gets it when he buys a struggling zoo in the country, and his family goes to live there.

Cameron Crowe to Reuse Casting Rejects in His Next Film?

I'm guessing Almost Famous writer/director Cameron Crowe (pictured above w/Eddie Vedder) is a proponet of recycling, which is kinda what he has in mind for his next film.  The filmmaker is using young actors who auditioned, but failed to land roles in his upcoming dramedy We Bought a Zoo starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johannson, as the inspiration and next cast for a future film, according to IFC News.

Pearl Jam Masterpiece

I would like to begin by saying that I am unashamedly biased when it comes to the subject matter of this film.  When someone asks what kind of music I listen to the answer has been, for the last two decades, Pearl Jam, and I'm fairly confident I'm not the only one.  Pearl Jam Twenty is a documentary of the band dating back to time before they were the greatest band known to man.  And who's idea is this magnificent project you may ask, but none other than Cameron Crowe

Scarlett Johansson in Cameron Crowe's 'Zoo'

Scarlett Johansson is one very busy woman.  Earlier this week we reported the actress had been cast as an "alien seductress" in the new sci-fi film Under the Skin and had made the shortlist for the role of Daisy in Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

Well now you can add another credit to that list as Cameron Crowe has cast her alongside Matt Damon in his upcoming adaptation of the Benjamin Mee memoir, We Bought a Zoo.

Cameron Crowe Developing Marvin Gaye Bio-Pic

If you ever want to read a good biography of a legendary musician, pick up a book by David Ritz. Among his subjects are Ray Charles, Smokey Robinson, and the Queen of Soul. He's also chipped in to help other musicians with their autobiographies.

But his best book, in my opinion, is one of the most lyrical and potent rock biographies around, Divided Soul: The Life & Times of Marvin Gaye. I mentioned the book briefly when it was announced that Jesse L. Martin - good casting - was lined up to play Marvin in a bio-pic (produced by James Gandolfini, strangely). They're not using Ritz' book and apparently, neither is Cameron Crowe, who has been quietly putting together a movie about Gaye for some time. Collider reports that Crowe has been developing the film for over three years, and he has secured "extensive" music rights and the cooperation of Berry Gordy, Jr. to pursue the film. However, it's at a standstill until Crowe and Sony agree on a star and a budget. Why wouldn't Crowe, himself a former rock journalist, lean on Ritz' fine book? Because it's less about the drama in Gaye's life and more about the music.
