Joss Whedon Explains Why 'The Avengers' Will Center Around Captain America

I thought the whole premise behind The Avengers was that they were a team of elite super heroes?  Turns out, director Joss Whedon has other things in mind about who the focal point will be in the first movie.  And it may or may not be who you think it is...His name starts with a "C" and ends with an aptain America.

Whedon explained his game plan of Captain America/Steve Rogers/Chris Evans taking the reigns of The Avengers to Entertainment Weekly.

'Captain America 2' Set Mostly in the Present

One of the things that made this summer's Captain America: The First Avenger so fun and compelling was the unique Sci-Fi tinged World War II setting, but it seems as though that's one feature the second film in the series will have to do without.  In the conversation with The HD Room, writer Stephen McFeely stated,

"I think it's safe for us to say that it's primarily set in the modern day.  That seems to have been the biggest question people have been wondering about regarding the sequel.

'Captain America' Blu-Ray Trailer Features 'Avengers' Stuff

Captain America: The First Avenger is almost out on DVD/Blu-Ray (October 25th).  We get to see a sneak preview trailer for the upcoming DVD, which features a slew of cool extras.  The DVD has tons of behind-the-scenes footage from Captain America and star Chris Evans' excellent portrayal of the hero, as well as cast interviews and a never seen before exclusive of the making of Joss Whedon's The Avengers.

Screenwriter Wants MODOK as Villain in 'Captain America 2'?

Captain America (Chris Evans) is off with The Avengers fighting bad guys in Cleveland last I checked, but that hasn't stopped one of his writers from talking new adversaries for the Captain America sequel.  Screenwriter Christopher Markus admitted he's making a concerted effort to get MODOK as the next major villain and has Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage in mind for the role.

Markus who co-wrote the first film with Stephen McFeely recently discussed his idea, according to The LA Times.

More Spoiler Videos From the Cleveland Set of 'The Avengers'

Security around the film sets of The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises must be incredibly lax, especially considering all the videos and pics that have hit the web since production started on both movies.  Earlier in the week, GTBP had some fan shot footage of Captain America (Chris Evans) in action on the streets of the Cleveland set.
