New Christopher Guest Film May Feature Creepy Collectibles

Let's spread a rumor that they're calling it Hoarders: The Motion Picture

What we mean by "creepy collectibles" is that the new film will focus not so much on the collectibles themselves, but on the creepy people who collect them.

Christopher Guest has brought us fantastic ensemble pieces such as Best In Show, This is Spinal Tap and Waiting For Guffman over the years and while his most recent film, For Your Consideration, wasn't as well-recieved as some of the earlier work, it's safe to hope that the new film will show a return to top-form.

See 'The General' and 'Waiting For Guffman' in Scottsdale This Wednesday

This Wednesday night, The Big Picture will host a special double feature at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art as part of SMoCA's current exhibit, Seriously Funny. In honor of the museum's tenth anniversary, Seriously Funny explores the many ways humor helps us understand the world. We'll be on hand to show the classic silent film, The General and Christopher Guest's Waiting for Guffman beginning at 6:30pm. We'll discuss both movies on their own and how they fit into the greater theme of the exhibit. Incidentally, there are events planned throughout April at SMoCA, and Seriously Funny runs through May 24th. Tonight, Spinal Tap's Gonna Rock You Tonight

How much more good could this news be? The answer is none. None more good. The three principal members of Spinal Tap, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer, are reuniting and hitting the road...as themselves.

Yep, the Unwigged and Unplugged tour kicks off April 17th and runs through May 31st, with a brand new album featuring original studio versions of the Spinal Tap soundtrack set to be released on May 26th. Oh, and there will be more Tap tunes on future editions of Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Collider was on hand earlier today at the announcement of the tour at the House of Blues, and got a sneak peek at how Guest, McKean, and Shearer - who also played The Folksmen in A Mighty Wind - will sound in concert:

'Waiting for Guffman' to Finally Make it to Broadway?

Everyone realizes that For Your Consideration and A Mighty Wind were steps behind Christopher Guest's earlier mockumentaries, Best in Show and Waiting for Guffman. But the thought of no more Chris Guest movies? I don't really want to think about that.

However, Jane Lynch, one of the funniest actors in Hollywood and a co-star in Guest's past three pictures, tells MTV that Guest might focus on the stage now, with ideas of taking Guffman to Broadway. “I haven’t heard any rumblings,” says Lynch of a possible fifth movie. “Parker Posey and I have put our heads together and decided we think it might be over.”

New Photos from Second 'Night at the Museum'

Here's our first glimpse of next summer's Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. Ben Stiller returns, only he's moved from New York's Museum of Natural History to, well, you get it.

The first movie did huge business. Enormous. Like, $600 million worldwide. Only 46 movies ever made have earned more, and at that time, it was in the top 40 all-time. So the sequel is no surprise, and neither is a pretty solid cast, none of whom would charge all that much, but they'd help out a sequel - you'll get Amy Adams, Eugene Levy, Christopher Guest, Bill Hader, and writers Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant from Reno 911 play the Wright brothers. That's on top of returning cast members Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Dick Van Dyke, and Ricky Gervais.
