'Clash of the Titans 3' in the Works

Despite the poor critical reception that 2010's Clash of the Titans remake received, it made a killing at the box office ($493 million from a $125 million budget).  And in this industry, that means that we get a trilogy.  Despite its sequel, Wrath of the Titans, having not even been released yet, The Hollywood Reporter has sent out word that two of the second films writers, David Johnson and Dan Mazeau, have been brought onboard to develop the story for a third project in the series.

'Clash of the Titans 2' Starts Production, Plot Released

The sequel to last year's Clash of the Titans began shooting this week under the helm of its new director Jonathan Liebesman.  And with the production start, Warner Bros. has sent out a press release signaling the event.  This type of release isn't anything new, but there were a few interesting bits in this specific one.  First, the project which has been referred to thus far as Wrath of the Titans is now just being called Clash of the Titans 2.  And secondly, Clash's co-star Gemma Arterton will not be returning to reprise her role of Io as she is committed to Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Here We Go Again... 'Clash of the Titans' Sequel Getting the Dreaded 3D Post-Conversion

Just when I thought things were looking up for the Clash of the Titans sequel, Wrath of the Titans, with the casting of Rasamund Pike, we get this news.  What's disheartening isn't the fact that the sequel will be hitting theaters in 3D as a 3D release has always been planned, what's disheartening is to hear those god awful words "post-conversion".  If you've read anything about last year's Clash or if god forbid you were like me and spent your hard earned money to see it in 3D in theaters, then you're well aware that it is being considered the worst 3D film release of all-time.  And that's not because the movie was bad, it's because of the hasty post-production conversion to 3D just to gain a few extra studio bucks.

It looks as though history may repeat itself as the sequel's director Jonathan Liebesman announced that rather than shoot in native 3D, they'll once again shoot on film and up-convert to 3D in post.  "Why, god, why would they be doing this again?" you might be asking yourself, and justifiably so.  But, things may not be as bad as we fear according to Liebesman.  In a press tour for his upcoming film Battle: Los Angeles, the director addressed the 3D post-conversion report and said that he won't be making the same mistakes as his predecessor.

Rosamund Pike Cast in 'Clash of the Titans' Sequel

British actress Rosamund Pike has been in the discussion for some pretty big films over the last few years.  Most recently, X-Men: First Class and Zack Snyder's Superman.  Well now, Pike is bowing of the Superman discussion to take another Warner Bros. project: the Clash of the Titans sequel, Wrath of the Titans.

Neeson Joins Returning Cast for 'Wrath of the Titans:' Somewhere, the Gods Weep.

Maybe there should be a new section called “News that Makes Me Confused, and a Little Sad,” because this would be on it.  Today, Academy Award nominee and all around excellent actor Liam Neeson has confirmed that he is officially in for 2012’s Clash of the Titans sequel, Wrath of the Titans. 

For Zeus, it's all about the dollar signs.
