Leaked Concept Art For 'Hellraiser' Remake

It just seems that almost every online website entertainment blogs/pieces are centered on reporting news for some Hollywood remake and today is no different.  A few weeks back we learned of a direct-to-DVD remake/reboot of Clive Barker's Hellraiser.  The remake, Hellraiser: Revelations, set up at The Weinstein Co. just so they can keep creative license on the character and any possible future remakes. Luckily (depending on how you view this), we'll possibly be getting a new remake with these concept art photos.

'Hellraiser' Remake Also Coming in Unnecessary 3-D

Yesterday, we told you about a new Short Circuit that Dimension Films is making. Dimension is doing the drive-thru window thing these days by propping up revisions of Hellraiser, An American Werewolf in London, Scanners, and Piranha, as well as the Halloween flicks and Scream 4. That's not all the studio is cooking up, but it's a major thrust for Weinstein Lite.

And here's more good news, he said facetiously, like pretty much everything else he says: The twisting-in-the-wind Hellraiser remake will be in 3-D. I know: How inventive. Bloody Disgusting has the official word, but there's no official word as to why it'll be 3-D. I love the idea of the original Hellraiser more than the movie, and because it's an idea they got wrong in the 80s, a remake is appropriate. But we don't need the gimmick of the extra Dimension dimension.

'Hellraiser' Update Mired in Development Hell

I've got to say, most guys sound less masculine when you reference the fact that they have a Twitter account. Could you ever imagine the words "Steve McQueen Tweeted..."? So even though Clive Barker is responsible for some incredibly twisted horror tales, he can't be scary now. Clive Barker Tweets.

And the brains behind Hellraiser let the world know on Tuesday that Pascal Laugier is off the upcoming remake, meaning it once again has no director. "I don't know much more," the writer added. "I mean why would anyone tell me? I mostly discover these things here or through friends who still buy the trades."

'Hellraiser' Remake Being Remade as Reboot

I'm not entirely sure what difference this is going to make, but we're hearing that the new Hellraiser movie won't be a remake of the first film so much as it will be a reboot of the series, perhaps in the same way Friday the 13th handled Jason Voorhees last month. I say I'm not sure what difference it makes not because I'm not interested, but rather because it's like wearing a suit twice but "rebooting" it by changing your cuff links. Dark Horizons got a hold of a French interview with director Pascal Laugier in which he says that the new film will cull from Clive Barker's original film and Barker's The Hellbound Heart novella, which contains the Frank and Julia characters, our launching pad into the universe of Pinhead. Because it's still using the first film as a source, perhaps calling it a reboot isn't exactly right, either. It's more like a Remake Plus. It's like Hellraiser Max - the same great taste, but loaded with guarana. Of all the franchise starters in horror, I've always felt that Hellraiser had the most potential. I'm not sure why it wasn't as extreme as it could have and should have been 20-odd years ago, but that would've made a difference. So maybe Laugier will go full-tilt here and we'll finally get a Hellraiser that's worthy of the story and villain. There's no word on when it will be released, but you've got to think we're a couple years away or less.

A Look at Pinhead's Extreme Makeover

Fangoria has some terrific new shots of a re-imagined Pinhead, the unforgettable force at the center of the Hellraiser series. I always thought that Hollywood had zero idea of what to do with the Clive Barker stories back in the 1980s; you can get a lot closer to that reality now, I would suspect, and to that end, a Hellraiser remake has been planned for some time.

The new designs are by Gary J. Tunnicliffe, who created the effects for the original films. Don't get too excited; this is just Tunnicliffe's work based on the idea that the producers want a different look for Pinhead. He's not involved with the remake in any capacity at this point. But then again, who is?
